What is a postal code map?

A postal code map is a spatial database that reproduces the reach of individual codes in Poland - from districts and zones, through sectors, to the full extent of five-digit codes. In practice this means that your own address data - as long as it has a valid postal code or geographic coordinates - can be assigned to the right code area, and, after optional enrichment, to its demographic and economic surroundings as well.

This lets you run advanced spatial analyses, build sales territories and analyze them in Business Intelligence or GIS software. The postal code map therefore supports business reporting and spatial analysis, and every address can be tied to a specific postal outlet and its service area.

Our data is used by financial institutions and by companies in the telecommunications, e-commerce and logistics sectors.

Precise spatial postal code data for business analysis

What does the map contain?

The postal code map consists of the following layers and data:

  • The aggregated boundaries of code districts (the first digit of the postal code),
  • The aggregated boundaries of code zones (the second digit of the postal code),
  • The aggregated boundaries of code sectors (the third digit of the postal code),
  • The boundaries of the service areas of postal outlets (the fourth and fifth digits of the postal code),
  • Every postal outlet with its full address (locality, street, number), the outlet's type and name, and its geographic coordinates (point data),
  • Institutions that hold a separate postal code, with their full address and name (point data).

Product details:

  • Data formats: any - e.g. GPKG, SHP, GeoJSON, KML
  • Coverage: postal codes across the whole of Poland
  • Data sources: Poczta Polska, GUS (TERYT, SIMC, NOBC), GUGiK (PRG)
  • Updates: quarterly
  • Aggregation levels: code districts, zones, sectors, full 5-digit codes and outlet service areas
  • Point data: postal outlets and institutions with a separate code - with full address, name, coordinates and location
  • Additional data (optional): demographics, the number of companies, infrastructure - aggregated to postal-code level
  • Technical support: full assistance with implementation and integration

The map is built on data from Poczta Polska (the Polish Post) and on the registers maintained by GUS (the Central Statistical Office) and GUGiK (the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography). Because we rely on official sources, you avoid the errors that can occur in popular online maps.

We provide the data in any GIS format (e.g. GPKG, SHP, GeoJSON, KML) or in another format convenient for the client, and we update every layer quarterly.

Postal codes in Poland - the Postal Address Number (PNA) system

Polish postal codes have the format dd-ddd and operate within the Postal Address Number (PNA) system. The system is designed hierarchically: each successive digit gradually narrows the area down - from the largest unit all the way to a specific postal outlet and its delivery area.

The first digit of the postal code identifies the code district - the postal district - for example the Łódź district or the Wrocław district. The second digit indicates the zone, the third the code sector, and the last two pinpoint the specific postal outlet and its area. In the largest cities, a code sector usually covers a distinct part of the city, which makes the division there more detailed.

Because the structure is hierarchical, the same postal code can be analyzed at several levels at once - from the district, through the zone and sector, to the full five-digit code. Our postal code map faithfully reproduces each of these levels, so you can make precise business decisions and reduce the risk that comes from out-of-date or inaccurate spatial data.

Enriched data and analytical support

To tailor the map to your individual needs, we can optionally enrich it with the following information, aggregated to postal-code level:

  • The number of buildings,
  • The number of dwellings,
  • The number of companies,
  • The number of active registered businesses,
  • Population figures broken down by sex and five-year age groups.

This lets you run more detailed analyses and make better-informed strategic decisions based on reliable data.

Key benefits of the postal code map

The most detailed boundaries on the market

Full postal code area boundaries (polygons) that reproduce the actual reach of each code, not an approximate centroid; postal outlets and institutions as precise points with geographic coordinates.

Official, reliable sources

The data comes straight from Poczta Polska and the GUS and GUGiK registers, so it matches the official record rather than approximations from popular online maps.

A complete hierarchy and coverage

Every level of the division: from the district, through the zone and sector, to outlet service areas, for postal codes across the whole of Poland.

Regular updates

We update the data quarterly, in line with the official PNA index published by Poczta Polska.

Ready for integration

Multiple GIS formats (GPKG, SHP, GeoJSON, KML) and easy deployment to BI, CRM and ERP systems, along with full technical support.

This exceptional level of detail comes from the way the map is built. It's created from a database of address points in which every address in the country has a postal code assigned - and that information is used to draw the polygon boundaries covering each code. Because our database contains every postal code, the map is a complete and highly detailed set.

What can you use the postal code map for?

The postal code map proves its worth wherever decisions depend on location. Here are the most common uses:

  • Spatial analysis and reporting - visualize any data (sales, customer density, network coverage) on the map by postal code and build clear reports in Business Intelligence or GIS tools.
  • Building sales territories - divide the market into coherent areas based on code boundaries, assign them to teams or reps, and compare the potential of individual regions.
  • Marketing segmentation and targeting - plan direct mail, outdoor and geotargeting campaigns across precisely defined areas, cutting your reach costs and connecting better with your audience.
  • Enriching your own databases - with optional enrichment, append demographic and economic data, aggregated to postal-code level, to your own records.
  • Logistics and network planning - define service or delivery zones and areas, analyze costs by area, and support decisions on where to locate outlets or warehouses.
  • Scoring and location models - use the postal code as a location variable in risk models or macroeconomic indicators.

Who is the postal code map for?

The postal code map is especially well suited to:

  • E-commerce companies planning geographic expansion - analyzing delivery ranges, mapping customer potential, and optimizing the location of distribution centers,
  • Financial institutions - using postal codes as location variables in scoring models and macroeconomic indicators,
  • Marketing agencies - precise geographic segmentation of advertising, direct mail and outdoor campaigns,
  • FMCG and distribution companies - dividing the market into sales territories for reps and comparing the potential of regions,
  • Logistics companies - defining delivery zones and areas, planning warehouse locations, and analyzing costs by area.

How do you get started with the database?

  1. Download a data sample - get access to prepared samples of the spatial layers and point data so you can check their quality and fit for your needs. You receive ready-to-use data for analysis, not just a preview of the map.
  2. Integrate and analyze - load the spatial layers (GPKG, SHP, GeoJSON, KML) into GIS software, as well as into BI tools that support spatial data, where you can visualize code coverage areas and attach your own data to them.
  3. Analyze and optimize - use precise data to make informed business decisions, boosting effectiveness and reducing risk.

Frequently asked questions

Is the data easy to integrate?

Yes. We support all popular GIS formats and provide full technical support during implementation. If needed, we'll also advise on how to prepare your own address data to join it with the map, and we can run training on working with the data in GIS software.

Does the database include locality and street names?

As a rule, no - the core of the map is postal codes and their coverage areas (polygon boundaries), optionally with aggregated data (e.g. the number of dwellings). Address data (locality, street, number, coordinates) covers only the point layer of postal outlets and institutions with their own postal code. If you need full address data, you'll find it in the buildings address database; if you're looking for locality and street names mapped to postal codes, see the postal codes, localities and streets database.

How often is the data updated?

We update the data quarterly, in line with the schedule of the PNA index published by Poczta Polska. We faithfully reproduce the hierarchical structure of Polish postal codes in the database - from the code district, through the zone and sector, to the outlet area; the first digit indicates the code district, e.g. the Łódź district.

What if the data doesn't meet my expectations?

Before you buy, we provide a free data sample and a consultation so you can assess the scope and quality of the data.

Can the data be enriched with demographic information?

Yes. We offer optional, additional data layers on population, households, age structure, the number of companies and infrastructure, aggregated to postal-code level.

How is the postal code map created?

The map is created from a database of address points in which every address in the country has a postal code assigned - from this we draw the polygon boundaries covering each code. Because the database contains every postal code, the map is a complete set with the most detailed boundaries on the market.
