A data-driven comparison of 10 address standardization and geocoding providers, supplemented by a simulation of the total cost of errors for a typical logistics process. Find out which tool will lower your organization's address data handling costs.
REPORT · JUNE 2026
Address as the main key for linking data. A comparison of 10 address standardization and geocoding services on 2,500 polish addresses.

Rankings across 3 dimensions
A comparison of 10 providers across three criteria: how accurately they standardize address field formatting, how precisely they pinpoint a location on a map, and how reliably they label their own results with quality indicators.
Business use case profiles
Two additional rankings: one tailored for logistics companies (where location accuracy matters most), and one for CRM departments (where a correct address as a customer identifier is the priority).
Error cost simulation
A calculation of total annual costs for 100,000 shipments - covering redeliveries, complaint handling, and manual address verification.
Errors the service doesn't catch itself
An analysis of cases where a provider marks a result as confident, yet points to the wrong location. This is the most expensive type of error - it passes through automation unchecked and only surfaces at delivery or during a complaint, by which point fixing it costs far more.
2,500 real-world addresses
A sample drawn from the shipments of one of Poland's largest courier operators (December 2025) - complete with typos and ambiguities you encounter in real systems, not laboratory-clean data.
Simulation on your own data
An included Excel spreadsheet lets you plug in your own shipment volumes and cost rates to see numbers that fit your organization exactly.
The report is designed to help you make an informed choice of address standardization & geocoding provider.
Not based on API price, but on the real cost of handling address data in your process.
OVERVIEW OF RESULTS
The ranking leaders stand clearly apart from the rest
- Only Data Quality and Locit do all three things well simultaneously — they correctly break addresses down into standardized components (street, number, postal code, city), accurately pinpoint locations on a map, and reliably signal when a result may be uncertain. The remaining services fall short in at least one of these areas.
- Esri and Google accurately identify coordinates, but when they label a result as "high quality," they're often wrong — the same label covers both correct and incorrect addresses. To safely automate processes, you need to add your own verification layer on top.
- Most services perform significantly worse on rural addresses than urban ones — a high overall score can mask serious gaps outside major cities. For companies serving the entire country, this means far more erroneous decisions in the non-urban segment.
- The most expensive errors are the ones the provider doesn't catch itself — when a service marks an address as certain but points to the wrong location, that error passes through automation without any checks. It only comes to light at delivery, during a complaint, or through incorrect customer segmentation, by which point the cost of correction is many times higher.

HOW WE DID IT
A methodology built on real operational data
STEP 1
2,500 real addresses
The sample comes from shipments handled by one of Poland's largest courier operators (December 2025) - complete with the real typos, abbreviations, and ambiguities that enter IT systems every day. It includes 1,197 urban and 1,253 rural addresses, with regional representation proportional to the actual distribution of addresses across Poland.
STEP 2
A reference version of each address (golden set)
For all 2,500 addresses, we established how each one should look after correct standardization — with accurate street names, postal codes, and localities matching the official TERYT, EMUiA, and PNA registers. This is our reference standard (the "golden set") against which we compared the output of each of the 10 tested services. Over 1,200 ambiguous cases were resolved manually.
STEP 3
Quality assessment and cost conversion
Each of the 10 services was evaluated across three dimensions: standardization accuracy (breaking the address into fields), geocoding precision (map location), and the reliability of their declared quality labels. From these, we built 3 rankings: a universal one and two tailored to specific use cases (logistics, CRM). Finally, the quality differences were translated into concrete operational costs — redeliveries, complaints, manual address verification — for 100,000 shipments per year.
